Does anyone else feel like January has a different kind of energy? The holiday chaos has settled, the year feels fresh and full of possibility, and then—bam!—we get the first full moon of the year, the Wolf Moon.

The name alone feels so mysterious, doesn’t it? But it’s not just about howling wolves under a frosty sky. The Wolf Moon is a beautiful time to pause, reflect, and reconnect—kind of like giving yourself permission to hit the “reset” button in perfect alignment with your new year intention-setting.

Why Is It Called the Wolf Moon?

The name comes from Native American and European traditions. January was a time when wolves were more vocal, howling through the winter nights. While it’s easy to imagine they were just hungry, wolves actually howl to communicate with their pack, find their way, and strengthen bonds.


In a way, we’re not so different from wolves, are we? This moon invites us to check in with our pack—our loved ones, our communities—and also with ourselves. Are we showing up authentically? Are we expressing what we truly need?
