calming your nervous system: Crystals, Reiki and Sound Healing

Sound Healing with Penny King

There is a level of background stress at the moment that many people don’t even realise they’re carrying. It’s not always something obvious. It can be the constant stream of news, the pressure of work, the cost of living, messages coming in at all hours, and the feeling that you always need to be available. Your body doesn’t separate any of that. It simply registers pressure.

Over time, that can leave your nervous system in a constant state of alert. You might notice it as shallow breathing, poor sleep, tension in your body, brain fog, or that feeling of being wired but exhausted at the same time. This is often when people start looking for something that will help them slow down, settle, or feel like themselves again.

In my work, I support this using crystals, Reiki, and sound healing. Not as a quick fix, but as a way of helping your body feel safe enough to soften.

What it really means to calm your nervous system

When your nervous system has been under pressure for a long time, it gets used to being “on”. Always alert. Always ready. Always slightly on edge. Calming it isn’t about forcing yourself to relax. It’s about giving your body the conditions where it can begin to settle on its own. For most people, this isn’t something you can think your way into. It’s something your body needs to feel.

Working with energy, not just symptoms

Everything I work with, crystals, Reiki, and sound, carries its own energy and vibration. Each one feels different. When you hold certain crystals, you can feel that difference quite clearly. Some feel steady and grounding. Some feel softer. Some feel lighter or more uplifting. I don’t choose crystals randomly.

Before you arrive, I’ve already started tuning into your energy. I sit quietly, listen to what comes through, and choose the crystals I’m guided to. More often than not, what you share when you walk in matches what has already come up. That is why no two sessions are ever the same.

Why I use crystals, Reiki and sound together

Each of these works in a slightly different way.

Crystals

Crystals hold a steady energy. They give you something physical to connect with when your thoughts feel scattered, something to bring your attention back into your body.

Reiki

Reiki works more quietly. It supports your body in softening without needing to talk through everything. This is often where people begin to drop out of that constant “on” feeling.

Sound healing

Sound works through vibration. The body responds to rhythm and frequency in a very direct way. It can help slow your breathing, release tension, and create a sense of calm without effort. Together, they support your nervous system from different angles, physical, energetic, and sensory.

Crystals I recommend when your nervous system feels overloaded

Each of these carries a different energy. You may find yourself drawn to one more than the others depending on what you need.

Simple ways to work with them

You don’t need a complicated routine.

Hold a crystal in your hand and bring your attention to your breath.

Keep one in your pocket during the day and reach for it when you feel overwhelmed.

Place one beside your bed as part of a simple wind-down routine.

It’s the consistency that makes the difference, not doing it perfectly.

What happens in a session

Many people come to me saying they just need a bit of self-care.

Often, what they actually need is space. By the time you arrive, I’ve already tuned into your energy and chosen the crystals and tools that feel right for you.

We begin with a conversation, and then move into the healing itself. Reiki, crystals, and sound all play a part.

Some sessions feel like a deep exhale. Some bring clarity. Some simply help you feel more like yourself again. I don’t create the change. That always comes from you. What I do is create the space where your body can settle, your thoughts can quieten, and your intuition can come through more clearly.

These practices are designed to support you alongside any medical care. If you are experiencing ongoing symptoms, it is always important to speak with your GP or a qualified professional.

Coming back into your body

In a world that keeps asking you to stay switched on, it’s very easy to lose that connection with yourself. Taking time to pause is not indulgent. It is necessary.

Sometimes that looks like holding a crystal for a few quiet moments. Sometimes it is allowing yourself the space of a session.

If you’ve been feeling constantly on edge, overwhelmed, or not quite yourself, April as Stress Awareness Month is the perfect time to help you find your way back to a steadier place. If you feel drawn to it, contact me for a healing session to support you, or shop any of these crystals online.
