Chakras and Crystals

People often come to me saying they feel “off”, but they can’t quite explain why.

They’re tired but wired. Emotional but flat. Motivated in theory but stuck in practice. Sometimes they feel grounded but closed. Other times open but overwhelmed.

This is usually where the chakra system becomes useful, not as something to diagnose or label, but as a way of understanding where energy is struggling to move.

A simple way to understand chakras

Chakras come from Indian yogic traditions and describe subtle energy centres that run along the spine, from the base of the body to the crown of the head.

Each one relates to a different aspect of how we experience life, things like safety, creativity, confidence, connection, communication, insight, and meaning.

In more modern energy work, each chakra is also associated with a colour. This isn’t about being literal or scientific. It’s a way of using colour as a focusing tool, something the nervous system can respond to visually and emotionally.

When a chakra is described as “out of balance”, it usually reflects emotional or behavioural patterns rather than anything physical. Feeling unsafe. Losing confidence. Holding things in. Struggling to trust yourself.

Crystals come into this as anchors. Their colour gives the system somewhere to land, and their physical presence helps the body settle and pay attention.

Root chakra, red and dark grounding tones

The root chakra relates to safety, stability, and feeling at home in your body.

When this area is out of balance, people often feel anxious, unsteady, disconnected, or constantly on edge, even when life looks fine on the surface.

For root misalignment, practitioners often work with red and dark stones such as Red Jasper, Garnet, Black Tourmaline, Smoky Quartz, Black Obsidian or Hematite. These stones help anchor energy into the body and support a sense of safety and steadiness at the base of the spine. They’re useful when you feel untethered, over-alert, or unable to fully relax.

Sacral chakra, orange and warmth

The sacral chakra is linked with emotion, creativity, pleasure, and flow. When it’s out of balance, people often feel emotionally numb, creatively blocked, or disconnected from enjoyment. Everything can feel muted or stuck.

For sacral blocks, stones like Orange Calcite, Carnelian, Peach Moonstone or Sunstone are often placed around the lower abdomen. These stones bring warmth and movement back into the system and support emotional and creative flow without overwhelm. They’re helpful if you feel flat, uninspired, or cut off from joy.

Solar plexus chakra, yellow and personal power

The solar plexus relates to confidence, self-trust, boundaries, and decision-making. When this area is out of balance, people often struggle with self-doubt, people-pleasing, or feeling powerless even when they know what they want.

At the solar plexus, yellow and golden stones such as Citrine, Golden Tiger’s Eye and Jasper are commonly used. These stones support clarity, confidence, and a stronger sense of self without pushing or forcing action. They’re useful when motivation is low or self-belief has taken a knock.

Heart chakra, green and pink tones

The heart chakra is about connection, compassion, and emotional balance.

When it’s out of alignment, people may feel guarded, overly self-critical, emotionally overwhelmed, or disconnected from others.

For heart work, practitioners reach for green and pink stones such as Rose Quartz, Malachite, Rhodonite, and softer heart stones like Pistachio Calcite . These stones support emotional healing, self-kindness, and the ability to give and receive support without overgiving.

Throat chakra, blue and clear expression

The throat chakra relates to communication, truth, and boundaries. When this area is blocked, people often struggle to speak up, hold things in, or say yes when they really mean no.

For throat misalignment, blue stones like, Aquamarine, Lapis Lazuli, Sodalite or Blue Calcite are placed around the throat area. These stones support calmer, clearer expression and help reduce the tension that builds when words are swallowed. They’re helpful if communication feels strained or emotionally loaded.

Third eye chakra, indigo and insight

The third eye is linked with intuition, insight, and perspective. When it’s out of balance, people may feel mentally foggy, disconnected from intuition, or overwhelmed by too much information.

For the third eye, practitioners often use indigo-toned stones such as Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli, Sodalite or Labradorite. These stones support clarity, pattern recognition, and trust in your own inner signals. They’re useful when your mind feels busy but direction feels unclear.

Crown chakra, violet and spaciousness

The crown chakra relates to meaning, contemplation, and a sense of connection beyond day-to-day concerns. When this area is out of balance, people can feel disconnected, lost, or overly focused on doing rather than being.

At the crown, clear and violet stones such as Clear Quartz, Amethyst, Selenite or Howlite are often used. These stones support mental quiet, reflection, and a sense of spaciousness without pulling you away from the body.

How crystals and sound work together

In sessions, I often combine crystals with sound because they support the system in different ways. Crystals offer focus through colour and physical presence. Sound works with rhythm and vibration, helping energy move and settle where it’s needed.

Together, they support regulation rather than forcing change. People often leave feeling lighter, clearer, or more settled, without needing to analyse why.

You don’t need to balance everything at once

You don’t need to work on every chakra at the same time. Often, one colour or area draws your attention because that’s where support is needed. The body is usually very clear about this if you listen. Working with chakras, colour, and crystals isn’t about fixing yourself. It’s about responding to what’s present.

Working with this in a healing session

In sessions, I don’t work through chakras as a checklist. I work with what’s actually showing up for you.

Sometimes one area needs attention. Sometimes it’s about bringing the whole system back into balance. Crystals are chosen by colour and feel, and sound is used to help energy settle, move, or stabilise where it’s needed.

People often leave feeling clearer, more settled, and more at ease in their body, not because anything has been forced, but because the system has had the right kind of support.

You don’t need to know which chakra is “out” or explain it perfectly. We work with what’s present and let the body lead
