Crystals to Harness the Power of the Solar Eclipse

On Wednesday 12 August 2026, a total solar eclipse will pass across parts of Greenland, Iceland and Spain. In the UK, we will experience a deep partial solar eclipse, with approximately 90 to 96 per cent of the Sun covered by the Moon, depending on your location.
A solar eclipse happens when the Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun, temporarily blocking some or all of the Sun’s light.
Energetically, solar eclipses bring times of sudden change, hidden truths, new beginnings and shifts in direction. As the familiar light of the Sun is temporarily obscured, we are encouraged to look at the parts of ourselves or our lives that are usually easier to ignore.
This does not mean you need to make an impulsive decision or change everything overnight. Eclipse energy can feel intense, so it is often better to observe what is coming up before deciding what to do with it.
Crystals can help you stay grounded, recognise what needs to change and become clearer about what you are ready to move towards.
Pietersite

Pietersite is one of my favourite crystals for this solar eclipse.
Often known as the Tempest Stone, Pietersite is associated with transformation, intuition and clearing the blockages that prevent us from seeing the opportunities ahead.
Its swirling appearance suits the energy of an eclipse beautifully. Life may not always change in a neat or predictable way, and Pietersite can support you when things feel unsettled or when an unexpected shift asks you to reconsider your direction.
Work with Pietersite if you feel that change is coming but cannot yet see what it will look like. It can help you trust your intuition while remaining open to a path you may not have considered before.
Hold it during meditation or journalling and ask yourself what you already know needs to change, even if you have been avoiding admitting it.
Labradorite

Labradorite is a crystal of transformation, intuition and spiritual protection.
When you first look at Labradorite, it can appear dark or unremarkable. Move it into the light and flashes of blue, green and gold begin to appear. This makes it a powerful crystal for an eclipse, when light and shadow temporarily move across one another.
Labradorite can help you explore what sits beneath the surface without becoming consumed by it. It is particularly helpful during times of transition, when your old direction no longer feels right but the next step is not yet completely clear.
Keep Labradorite with you in the days around the eclipse if you are moving through a personal change, questioning an old identity or becoming more aware of what your intuition has been trying to tell you.
Sunstone

Sunstone is connected with confidence, freedom, optimism and personal power.
During a solar eclipse, the Sun’s light is temporarily hidden, but it has not disappeared. Sunstone offers a similar reminder that your confidence and sense of self may sometimes feel obscured without being lost.
Work with Sunstone if you have been making yourself smaller, waiting for permission or allowing fear to determine your choices. It can help you reconnect with your own light and recognise where you are ready to be seen more fully.
Sunstone is also a good crystal to use after you have completed some of the deeper reflection associated with the eclipse. Once you know what you are ready to leave behind, it can help you approach the next stage with greater confidence.
Citrine

Citrine supports manifestation, optimism, confidence and forward movement.
While lunar energy is often associated with emotions and intuition, the Sun is connected with action, identity and how we express ourselves in the world. Citrine can help turn an intention into something more focused and practical.
Use Citrine when you know what you would like to move towards and need the confidence or motivation to begin.
Rather than asking Citrine to make something happen for you, hold it while identifying the first action you can take. This might be beginning a conversation, applying for an opportunity, setting a boundary or making a decision you have delayed.
Black Obsidian

Black Obsidian is a powerful crystal for truth, protection and releasing limiting patterns.
A solar eclipse can bring shadow material to the surface. This may include fears, habits or beliefs that you have not previously been ready to face.
Black Obsidian can help you look honestly at what is blocking you. Its energy can feel direct, so it may not be the crystal to choose when you need gentle reassurance. It is better suited to those moments when you are ready to recognise the truth and do something about it.
Work with Black Obsidian before setting your new intention. Ask what needs to be released so that you are not carrying the same fear or pattern into your next chapter.
If you find its energy too strong, use it for a short period and pair it with a grounding or calming crystal.
Clear Quartz

Clear Quartz brings clarity and amplifies the energy of your intentions.
During an eclipse, emotions and ideas can feel heightened. Clear Quartz can help you sort through what is meaningful rather than reacting to every thought that appears.
Once you have spent time reflecting with Pietersite, Labradorite or Black Obsidian, use Clear Quartz to focus on the intention you want to carry forward.
You can program your Clear Quartz by holding it and clearly stating your intention. Keep your wording simple and connected with something you are prepared to support through your own choices and actions.
Clear Quartz can also be placed at the centre of a solar eclipse crystal grid to bring the other crystals together.
How to Work With Crystals During the Solar Eclipse
I would suggest choosing one crystal for reflection and one for forward movement.
Pietersite, Labradorite or Black Obsidian can help you explore what is changing, while Sunstone or Citrine can support the direction you would like to take next. Clear Quartz can be added to bring clarity and amplify your intention.
Before the eclipse, write down what has begun to feel outgrown, restricted or no longer right for you. Sit with your reflective crystal and allow yourself to be honest about what needs to change.
Afterwards, choose your Sunstone, Citrine or Clear Quartz and write down what you are ready to step into. Include one practical action you can take once the eclipse has passed.
Please remember that it is never safe to look directly at a partial solar eclipse without proper eclipse glasses or suitable solar viewing equipment. Ordinary sunglasses do not provide enough protection.
You do not need to watch the eclipse directly to work with its energy. Your crystal practice can take place safely indoors, before the eclipse begins or once it has ended.
Moving Through Solar Eclipse Energy
Eclipses can reveal something that was already changing beneath the surface. You may notice an old situation feels less comfortable, a new possibility becomes clearer or a decision becomes harder to avoid.
There is no need to force an immediate answer. Work with the crystals that help you stay honest, grounded and open to change, then allow the next step to become clearer in its own time.
