Crystals to Harness the Power of the Lunar Eclipse

Lunar eclipse

A partial lunar eclipse will take place during the early hours of Friday 28 August 2026, when the Earth will move between the Sun and the Moon and cast its shadow across the lunar surface.

Lunar eclipses have long been associated with revelation, emotional release and the closing of old cycles. They can bring feelings, habits or situations into clearer view, particularly those we have been trying not to think about.

That does not mean something dramatic has to happen. Sometimes the change is much quieter. You may simply recognise that a situation no longer feels right, that you have outgrown an old belief or that you are ready to stop carrying something that has taken up too much emotional space.

The energy around an eclipse can feel heightened, so I would not recommend putting pressure on yourself to find all the answers in one evening. Use the time to notice what comes up, listen to your intuition and give yourself space to reflect before making any big decisions.

Crystals can support this process by helping you feel grounded, protected and more connected with what you genuinely need.

These are the crystals I would recommend working with during the lunar eclipse.

Silver Sheen Obsidian

Silver Sheen Obsidian - Penny King Crystals
Silver Sheen Obsidian

Silver Sheen Obsidian is a powerful crystal for reflection, protection and seeing what has been hidden beneath the surface.

Like other forms of Obsidian, it is often used to bring truth into the light and reveal emotional patterns, beliefs or attachments that are ready to be understood. Its silvery, reflective appearance makes it particularly suited to lunar eclipse energy.

The sheen is not always immediately visible. It appears when the stone is moved and catches the light, which feels very appropriate for an eclipse. Something that has been present for a long time may suddenly become much easier to see when it is viewed from a different angle.

Work with Silver Sheen Obsidian if you feel ready to look honestly at a situation without becoming completely consumed by it. It can help you recognise where fear, habit or old emotional baggage may be influencing the choices you make now.

Hold it while journalling and ask yourself what you already know but may not have wanted to admit. You could also ask what needs to be understood before you can truly release it.

Obsidian can have a strong energy, so take your time. There is no benefit in forcing yourself to process more than you feel ready for.

Vivianite

Vivianite - Penny King Crystals
Vivianite

Vivianite is a beautiful crystal for emotional honesty, compassion and feelings that have been buried or left unspoken.

It is often connected with grief, emotional healing and the gradual process of allowing yourself to feel something you may previously have pushed away. This makes it a valuable crystal to work with during a lunar eclipse, when old emotions can rise back to the surface.

Vivianite does not ask you to ignore difficult feelings or rush towards being positive. Instead, it supports you in acknowledging what is there with greater kindness towards yourself.

You may be drawn to Vivianite if you are processing an ending, grieving a person or a past version of your life, or beginning to understand that an old hurt is still affecting you.

Sit quietly with the crystal and notice what feelings come up without judging them. You do not need to solve everything or create a neat conclusion. Sometimes recognising and naming an emotion is the first part of releasing its hold over you.

Vivianite is a delicate mineral and should be handled carefully. Avoid cleansing it with water or leaving it exposed to strong sunlight.

I currently have Vivianite available, but it is not listed in my online shop. Please send me a direct message if you would like to see the pieces I have.

Black Moonstone

Black Moonstone - Penny King Crystals
Black Moonstone

Black Moonstone is connected with intuition, emotional cycles and the space between an ending and a new beginning.

Moonstone is naturally associated with lunar energy, but Black Moonstone has a deeper, more grounding quality than some of the lighter varieties. It can help you turn inwards while still feeling steady and supported.

It is a helpful crystal when you know that one phase of your life is ending, but you are not yet sure what will take its place. There can be an uncomfortable period between letting go of something familiar and feeling ready to move forward.

Black Moonstone reminds us that not every new beginning needs to be rushed. Just as the Moon moves through different phases, there are times for action and times for rest, reflection and allowing things to develop.

Work with Black Moonstone if you are going through a transition or questioning what you want next. Hold it during meditation or keep it beside you while writing about the cycle you feel ready to complete.

You may want to ask yourself what you are holding on to because it feels familiar, rather than because it is still right for you.

Malachite

Malachite - Penny King Crystals
Malachite

Malachite is a powerful crystal for transformation, protection and breaking patterns that have become limiting.

Its energy is often associated with change, which makes it especially useful when the lunar eclipse reveals something that can no longer be ignored.

Malachite can help you recognise repeating patterns in your relationships, work, confidence or emotional responses. It encourages honesty about the part you may be playing in keeping those patterns going.

This does not mean blaming yourself for everything that has happened. It means recognising where you now have a choice and where a different response could begin to create a different outcome.

Work with Malachite when you know that release needs to be followed by change. You might already understand what is not working, but still feel nervous about doing something differently.

Hold the crystal while writing down one pattern you would like to change. Then consider one realistic action that would interrupt that pattern the next time it appears.

Malachite should not be placed in water, and unpolished pieces should be handled with care.

Lepidolite

Lepidolite - Penny King Crystals
Lepidolite

Lepidolite is a calming crystal that can offer emotional support when eclipse energy feels intense.

Reflection and shadow work can be useful, but they should not leave you feeling overwhelmed. Lepidolite can help bring a gentler quality to the process, particularly if your thoughts are racing or you are struggling to switch off.

It is often associated with emotional balance, transitions and releasing old habits. It can be especially helpful when you know something needs to change, but part of you is still seeking the comfort of what feels familiar.

Use Lepidolite alongside one of the deeper crystals, such as Silver Sheen Obsidian, Vivianite or Malachite. It can help you process what comes up without feeling as though you need to act on every emotion immediately.

Hold it while breathing slowly or place it beside your bed if the eclipse energy leaves you feeling restless.

You might also use Lepidolite after journalling or meditation to bring yourself back to a calmer and more settled state.

Garnet

Garnet - Penny King Crystals
Garnet

Garnet is a grounding crystal connected with courage, strength and renewed energy.

After spending time reflecting on what needs to be released, it is important to bring your attention back into your body and the present moment. Garnet can help you feel steadier and more capable of taking the next practical step.

It is particularly useful when an ending or change has left you feeling uncertain, depleted or disconnected from yourself.

Garnet does not ask you to rush into a fresh start. Its energy is more about rebuilding your strength and remembering that you can move forward at your own pace.

Hold Garnet after completing your lunar eclipse practice. Feel its weight in your hand, place your feet firmly on the floor and take a few slow breaths.

Ask yourself what would help you feel supported as you move through the next stage. The answer may be rest, a clearer boundary, a conversation, more practical help or simply giving yourself more time.

How to Work With Crystals During the Lunar Eclipse

You do not need to stay awake for the eclipse or complete a complicated ritual to work with its energy. You can do this practice during the evening before, on the day itself or within the surrounding few days.

Choose one crystal that reflects what you need most.

Silver Sheen Obsidian can help you see what has been hidden. Vivianite can support emotional honesty and healing. Black Moonstone is helpful for endings and transitions, while Malachite can support deeper change.

Lepidolite can be added when you need calm and emotional support, and Garnet is ideal for grounding yourself afterwards.

Find a quiet space and write down what has been taking up too much emotional space in your life. This might be a belief, habit, attachment, fear, expectation or situation.

Hold your chosen crystal and read what you have written. Notice how your body responds and whether any further thoughts or feelings arise.

You can then safely tear up the paper or place it somewhere private as a symbol of your intention to stop carrying the situation in the same way.

Finish by holding Lepidolite or Garnet and taking a few slow breaths. Bring your attention back to the room around you and remind yourself that release is often a process rather than a single moment.
