Earth Day: Crystals to Help You Feel Grounded Again

Petrified Wood

Earth Day, April 22nd, is often about looking after the planet. But it’s also a good moment to notice how connected you feel to it. Most people I see aren’t feeling very grounded at the moment. They feel busy. Pulled in different directions. In their heads more than their bodies. Constantly thinking about what’s next.

That’s usually when the nervous system starts to feel unsettled. Not because anything is wrong, but because there’s no pause. No reset. No sense of being properly anchored.

What it means to feel grounded

When you feel grounded, things tend to feel steadier. Your thoughts slow down. Your breathing settles. You feel more present in your body rather than constantly thinking ahead. When you’re not grounded, it often shows up as overthinking, restlessness, poor sleep, or that low-level feeling of being on edge. It’s something I see a lot in sessions. And it’s also something that can be supported quite simply.

Working with grounding stones

Some crystals carry a much heavier, steadier energy. These are often referred to as grounding stones because they help bring your attention back into your body and into the present moment. You’ll often feel it quite clearly when you hold them. They don’t feel light or floaty. They feel solid. Anchoring. Calm.

These are some of the ones I reach for most often.

Black Tourmaline - Penny King Crystals
Black Tourmaline

Black Tourmaline

One of the strongest grounding stones.

This is often helpful when your stress feels external. Too much noise, too many demands, too much going on around you. It helps create a sense of boundary and makes it easier to feel less affected by everything around you.

Smoky Quartz

A steady, calming energy.

This is one I recommend when everything feels overwhelming or out of control. It helps bring you back into your body and into the present moment.

Hematite - Penny King Crystals
Hematite

Hematite

Very anchoring.

This is often used when your thoughts are spiralling or you feel disconnected from yourself. It has a strong, stabilising energy that helps you feel more settled quite quickly.

Petrified Wood

A slower, deeper kind of grounding.

This carries a very steady energy and is often chosen when you need patience, stability, or a sense of long-term support.

Shungite - Penny King Crystals
Shungite

Shungite

A protective, absorbing stone. Often used around technology, especially if you spend a lot of time on screens or feel overstimulated by your environment. It helps take the edge off that constant “on” feeling.

Simple ways to work with grounding crystals

You don’t need to do anything complicated. Hold a crystal in your hand and bring your attention to your breath when you feel overwhelmed. Keep one nearby while you’re working, especially if you spend a lot of time on screens. Place one beside your bed if your mind struggles to switch off at night. It’s the consistency that makes the difference, not doing it perfectly.

Coming back to the earth in small ways

Grounding doesn’t have to mean a big change. It can be simple. Stepping outside for a few minutes without your phone. Standing still instead of rushing to the next thing. Holding something solid and letting your body settle around it.

These small moments are often enough to shift how you feel.

A different way to think about Earth Day

Earth Day doesn’t have to be about doing more. It can be about reconnecting.

Noticing where you feel disconnected, and gently bringing yourself back. Sometimes that starts with something as simple as holding a stone and taking a slower breath.

If you’ve been feeling unsettled

If you’ve been feeling in your head, overwhelmed, or not quite yourself, grounding stones are a simple place to start. But sometimes it’s not just about having the right crystal. It’s about giving your body the space to properly slow down and reset.

That’s where my healing sessions come in.

Using a combination of crystals, Reiki, and sound, I work with your energy to help your nervous system settle and bring you back into a more grounded state.

If that feels like what you need, you can read more about my sessions or get in touch for a chat.

And if you’re simply looking for a crystal to support you day to day, you can explore what’s available online or come along to one of my Crystals & Coffee sessions to choose in person.
